The Quinta do Noval 1955 vintage Port is an exceptional wine, even in the context of this magnificent year. Deep garnet with an amber rim, the bouquet is complex, full, spicy and seductive, with notes of dried black fruits, figs, cherries and beeswax.
On the palate, it's full-bodied yet refined, with a velvety texture that carries flavours of stewed black fruits, molasses, caramel, liquorice and cheery liqueur. The tannins are rounded and soft, giving structure and adding a mineral note to the spiced coffee finish. Wonderful now, it has time on its side.
