Hawkshead 2008 Pinot Gris - Case of 12

MWH Wines: Hawkshead Vineyard is located on the road between Queenstown and Cromwell in the Gibbston Valley in the heart of Central Otago. It was founded by Denis Marshall and Ulrike Kurenbach. Denis was an M.P. for over 15 years and for 6 years he was an Associate Minister of Agriculture with responsibility for horticulture. The first block of 1.5 ha. was planted in 2001 and a further 1.5 ha. in 2002.  The following Pinot Noir clones are planted - 5, 6, 114, 115, 667 and Able. Clone 5 (Pommard) has been used as the skeletal structure to the final blend, with clone 115 as the muscle, and the Able clone as the heartbeat that pulls the wine together.

The 2006 Hawkshead Pinot Noir is lively and vibrant with restrained fruit and balancing acidity. On the palate there are layers of ripe dark berries, chocolate, cardamom and thyme carried by fine structured tannins. The wine has wonderful mouth feel, great length and a long life ahead of it.
