Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Reviews

Vinous 98/100 - The 2013 Comtes de Champagne is a towering Champagne, as it was last year. Rich, sumptuous and explosive, the 2013 soars out of the glass with a captivating mix of tropical fruit, apricot, passion fruit, baked apple tart, mint and yellow flowers. It is one of the most explosive, extroverted Comtes I have ever tasted. Impressive. 2025-2053 (AG)

The Wine Advocate 96/100 - The 2013 Brut Blanc de Blancs Comtes de Champagne's bouquet is compellingly fresh and minty, revealing aromas of white fruit—notably pear and apple—marzipan and sweet spices, as well as a light touch of citrus mingled with classy autolytic notes. On the palate, this is a structured, tensile and ethereal Champagne with high acidity—a sign of a classic vintage — animated by a mousse of striking finesse and delicacy. Although already enjoyable, it should develop well for several decades. 2023-2045 (YC)

Antonio Galloni 98/100 - The 2013 Comtes de Champagne captures all the pedigree of this great vintage in its energy, depth and vibrancy. Lemon confit, dried flowers, chamomile, spice and crushed rocks all race across the palate. Passionfruit, ginger, marzipan and mint appear later, filling out the layers beautifully.  Harvest took place in October in what has become the exception rather than the norm in Champagne.

James Suckling 98/100 - Nervy and tight with notes of crushed almonds, chalk, white grapefruit, digestive biscuits, lemons and apricot stones. Hints of fennel and white pepper. Deep and mineral, with plenty of power. Very fine bubbles. Long drive at the end. Try after 2024.

MWH Wines – Ghostly pale, but with a knock-out nose of Granny Smith apples, pears, and lemons backed by white blossoms and vanilla.  Explosive on the palate, so much energy and zest.  This is offset by wonderful delicacy and intricacy.  So complex even at this tender age.  White and yellow fruits, a touch of almond kernel and honey, typically minerally but untypically exuberant.  Time is on its side, but so hard to resist already!
